It’s another week here at Downstream Pulp, and I would like to start off by saying thank you to all who have been kind enough to give me a follow. It isn’t every day that I create a new blog page; so with that in mind, I am truly honored to see so much support being headed my way. As far as writing goes, I would still consider myself a novice as is. In truth, there is still so much to do on my part - so many stories to tell - but first I would like to share my plans going forward. For though the task of writing is a solitary one, I feel it’s just as important to remain transparent in what I do.
After all, if it wasn’t for each and every one of you, this blog page would be little more than a mere shadow of itself.
To start with, these last few months have been quite the surreal experience. Not only have I learned a lot about myself as a person, but I’ve also discovered much of what I can do as a writer. Mistakes have been made, of course, but I have also worked hard to try and see them fixed.
Whether I’ve actually succeeded or not is something I leave for you to decide. Still, I am sincerely thankful that Downstream Pulp has turned into such a passion of mine. I would hardly describe myself as a regular person even on a normal day; thus it’s all the more impactful that so many of you have reached out and shown me your support. Yet instead of dwelling on my successes so far, I see this as something to help guide me forward, to help mold me into a better writer as a whole.
So here’s the plan.
First, I should probably mention the status of my upcoming novella, as these last few months have really helped me to see what works and what doesn’t. Thankfully, I feel that there isn’t too much which needs fixing, as from a character and story perspective I’m quite content. As for the moment, my edits are concerned with working out the pacing for the first few chapters. A couple plot holes will also need to be addressed, though I don’t anticipate those taking too long before final edits. The rest will simply just be tweaks to dialogue and prose; then it’s off to the races. After that, I am planning to disclose the release date sometime around mid-March. There I’ll also be showing off my main cover, along with sharing some fun details about my two main characters.
Aside from that, my plan is to simply keep putting out more reviews, essays, and short-stories. Lately, I’ve been receiving several requests on what Iron Age content I should be reading. A few of these are already in the works, including Act 0 of James Krake’s The Undying Emperor. Not long after I am hoping to take a look at Bound for the Styx, the latest novel in Radio Retrofuture’s bibliography. Finally, there is the second entry in Black Knight’s Starshatter saga, a book which I’m more than eager to get into.
Along with these reviews, I still plan on contributing more to the Iron Age myself. As always I enjoy working with Iron Age Media’s weekly prompts; in particular, seeing what stories can be created in the spur of the moment. I’ve also even toyed around with putting in a few short-story submissions, most likely for magazines such as Cirsova and DMR Books.
With all of this in mind, however, my plans still aren’t impervious to change. Though my focus might shift towards other projects every here and there, my goal is to keep putting out a new short-story each and every month, along with at least one review.
The rest I simply hope to play by ear. Apart from that, I will be sure to keep you updated on any major changes in my schedule.
Until next time, my friends! I’m your friendly otter here at Downstream Pulp, and I wish you the best of luck moving forward.
We both need more time in the day. Just keep at it, though.
